Bring Back Your Inner Child!
Remember when you were a kid, and you’d mimic your favorite TV characters?
Without realizing it…
You were studying the language.
You didn’t learn your native language in a textbook.
You learned it by watching and mimicking real native content.
So, if you’re learning a new language, why would you do anything different?
Start With Video

A child listens to the world around them – they understand nothing – but they hear everything.
Don’t pressure yourself to understand everything all at once.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy watching the world.
The Search Engine for Language Learners
On Mezasu.com, you can search anything (in any language) and find interesting content in your target language.
Try to find a video that is fun to watch even if you don’t know what’s being said.
1st Watch – Sit back and enjoy (you can even read the subtitles in your native language if you want – this feature is coming soon).
2nd Watch – Read captions (in your target language).
3rd Watch – Break down the language.
Break Down the Language

Challenge
Aim to understand 6,000 sentences.
That might seem like a lot! But these sentences could easily add up by shifting around words and phrases you already know:
- I like dogs.
- I like to go swimming.
- I like playing sports.
- I like my mom’s cooking.
- I like learning languages.
Imagine learning all of these phrases with native audio!
This is what language learning pros like to call: Sentence Mining

An End to Never-Ending Reviews
Most flashcard apps will keep you reviewing the same cards forever.
We think that’s a waste of your time.
When studying vocabulary, there may come a time when you recognize the word, but you feel like you still don’t know it.
This is normal.
Don’t forget – Context is King.
The best thing you can do is stop reviewing that vocabulary card and create sentence cards in its place.
At Mezasu.com, we automatically track when you’ve become familiar with a card.
With a vocabulary card, it’s added to a list for you to create sentence cards.
With a sentence card, well…you’re done.
From that point, it’s best to get your review while engaging with real content.
Track Study Time
If you want to get fluent in your target language, tracking your study time can help you set reachable goals.
Mezasu.com automatically tracks Card Review & Mimic Review.
But your study time is more than just reviews.
You might use other apps, textbooks, or even take classes.
All of language learning can be broken down into 4 core categories.

Reading

Writing

Listening

Speaking
We know that most of your study time will be a mix of the 4 core categories.
So Mezasu.com makes it easy for you to track where your time is going.
You can select the Focus Categories & Percent of Practice.

Why Track Your Time?
Many people will ask you, “How long have you studied?”
It’s a hard question to answer, right?
You may have taken classes in high school – then went on a long break.
You may have studied for many years – but just as a hobby.
We all have different experiences.
A better question to ask is, “How many hours have you studied.“
This is a better question because every hour counts in language learning.
📝 People who believe they’re not good at language learning are simply not engaging enough in the language.
Let’s say there are 2 people who studied every day for an entire year.
| Person #1 (10 minutes per day) 60.8 hours total | Person #2 (1 hour per day) 365 hours total |
It’s the same year, but Person #2 has 6x more engagement in the language.
Challenge
For conversational fluency: Aim for ### hours studied.
| Language Difficulty | Hours of Study |
|---|---|
| Very Similar | 600-750 hours |
| Similar | 900 hours |
| Hard | 1100 hours |
| Very Hard | 2200 hours |
Every language is different, but some languages are more similar than others.
For a native English speaker…
Spanish has many similarities. It may take you 750 hours of study to reach conversational fluency.
Japanese and Chinese are very different. These will likely take 2200 hours of study.
However, if you’re a native Chinese speaker…
Japanese may only take 1100 hours while Spanish takes longer.
Keep this in mind and set a goal.
Even if you feel overwhelmed, keep that goal before giving up (I promise it will be worth it 😉)
